NHS launches 15 NHS PCTs and 330 GP practices
The NHS South Central Strategic Health Authority has launched an advanced Practice-Based Commissioning (PBC) decision support service to 15 PCTs and 330 GP practices in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. The new online service, the Thames Valley Data Warehouse (TVDW), has been developed in consultation with the PCTs using the Healthware data warehousing solution and a specialised PBC reporting application from healthcare BI specialist Ardentia. The TVDW service gives NHS commissioners and GP practices secure, unlimited access to patient-level data and in-depth reports via a web browser, to help support PBC decision-making. It will also help GP practices to develop and refine their PBC processes and manage budgets more easily. The data in TVDW will be updated monthly, and will show each GP practice’s allocated PBC budget against the amount already spent, providing an early warning of any possible overspend. As well as helping with budget management, the service will enable practices to plan which services and clinics could be provided in community settings, away from hospitals.
