Telemedicine in Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital (India)
The Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital in Tamil Nadu (India) is going to introduce new facility to make speciality care more accessible to rural patients. Through this, the hospital, one of the oldest private children’s hospitals in south India, is trying to break time-barrier, cost-barrier and distance-barrier in paediatric healthcare with the telemedicine facility it launched. This facility will make speciality care more accessible to rural patients, according to S. Sridharan, the hospital’s medical director. The facility will allow videoconference consultation between village primary healthcare centres and specialists in the city. It will also aid the training of personnel in remote areas and will allow long-distance post-operative check-ups for outstation patients. Starting with a single link to the Rich Hospital in Nellore, the programme foresees links in Tirupati, Chittur, Arakonam, Tiruvannamalai, Chengalpet and Kumbakonam in next three to six months. The second phase will involve a mobile centre to provide telemedicine facilities across the State.
