Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledges $3 million to fight malaria in Africa
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in a UN backed campaign, will provide a grant of US$ 3 million to Africa for fighting against Malaria, because of which 1 million people die every year, particularly children under five years of age. Many organization such as UN Foundation, UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the American Red Cross and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has emerged as a major supplier of bed nets to some of the most needy countries in Africa. UNICEF has procured over 23 million nets for distribution in the year 2007, to save the lives of around 138,000 children.
