Government of India’s AIDS control programme enters third phase
The National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) has entered its third phase with a three-pronged strategy, as per the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare (India). The first two phases of NACP have helped in the reduction of the number of HIV/AIDS cases and reaching a stabilisation stage in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. NACP III is envisaged to strengthen links between general health programme and prevention of HIV/AIDS and will reach up to village levels with three aims — care and support, treatment and prevention. The government will undertake help from NGOs in the NACP III phase, for counselling and training ASHAs for the HIV/AIDS testing facility.
