Indian Government allocates INR 15,921 million for health sector in annual budget
This time Union Government is more focused on health care programmes in its annual budget of this year. The Indian Government has proposed to increase the allocation for the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) from INR 8,207 million in 2006-07 to INR 9,947 million in 2007-08 in this year budget. While presenting the annual budget, Finance Minster, P. Chidambaram told that government will emphasis on mother and childcare and on prevention and treatment of communicable diseases like TB and malaria. The Government is planning to start the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP)-III, programme in all states. The government has proposed INR 969 million for the AIDS Control Programme, while INR 1290 million for Polio eradication programme. Government will recruit around 320,000 Associated Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and provide training to them. State Government will select 90,000 link workers for healthcare programmes.
