One lakh mobiles for health workers, volunteers

Soon, one lakh mobile phones would be provided to health workers and volunteers, who are working in remote locations of India. This initiative will improve the health service delivery system in the rural areas. All the 55,400 women health volunteers in the State will receive mobile phones. In addition to them, 8,000 community health workers serving the tribal communities will also be equipped with the mobile phones. Some 20,000 health volunteers proposed to be recruited newly will also get mobile phones along with 13,000 ANMs. The mobile phones will not only help ensure quick response for emergency cases, but also facilitate timely reporting on the outbreak of diseases and spread of epidemics. Another healthcare institute called Health Management Research Institute (HMRI) under public private participation with the Satyam Foundation will be soon launched.
