Mobile health units roll out in Guwahati, India
After launching the first batch ‘Hospitals on Wheels’ in Guwahati, Kokrajhar programme has received its share of mobile healthcare facilities. Introduced under the National Rural Health Mission, the mobile medical units are equipped with X-Ray machines, a microscope, ECG machine, ultrasound, autoclaves, auto-analyser, stretchers and a pharmacy. Each mobile medical unit has three vehicles; two Tata buses equipped with an out-patient department, laboratory and essential diagnostic accessories powered by generators and a Mahindra Scorpio for the medical team. The mobile unit has two doctor, two nurses, a lab technician, a radiographer and a pharmacist. In the first phase, the Government is rolling out ‘Hospitals on Wheels’ in eight districts, including Dhemaji, Hilakandi, Dhubri, Nagaon, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Kokrajhar and Karbi Anglong. Doctors, staff nurses and other paramedical staff will be available round the clock at the mobile medical unit. People who are living in remote areas where there are no medical facilities will finally be able to access quality healthcare.
