MAQUET introduces advanced MAGNUS OT
Heavyweight patients not just jeopardizes their personal operating risk, but also affects the efficacy of surgical procedures on traditional operating tables. More and more, surgeons are faced with such additional concerns as the number of overweight patients continues to rise.
Very heavy patients generally impair the stability of an operating table, making it virtually impossible to position it as the surgeon requires. “Patients are becoming heavier, these are enormous leverage effects” adds Dr. Dieter Engel, technical director at MAQUET. “Nevertheless, the operating table has to be positioned to the millimeter.” The displacement of fat from the surgical area is a particular challenge to the surgeon. The targeted exposure and positioning of the patient required for this is now possible with the use of the MAGNUS. An optimum exposure area is achieved in combination with gravitational force and the operating table’s extreme tilting and tipping functionality. The tilt angle of up to 80
