Emergency child helpline launched in Dimapur, Nagaland
The Childline India Foundation has recently launch a Childline 1-0-9-8(night and day) in Dimapur. 1098 is a national 24 hour free emergency telephone helpline and outreach service for children in need of care and protection.
The stake holders of the project including the state government of Nagaland, NGOs and Childline India Foundation have been entitled to over see if the project is also carried out to the advantage of underprivileged children, as well.
Child-line is a unique partnership of government-NGO-corporate sector and the largest NGO network in India which reaches out to all children in need of care and protection such including street children, child labourers, children who have been abused, child victims of flesh trade, differently-able children, child addicts, children in conflict with the law, children in institutions, mentally challenged children, HIV and aids infected children, children affected by conflict and disaster, child political refugees, children whose families are in crises.
Northeast coordinator of Childline India Foundation (Kolkata) Avik Mitra, stressed on the need for coordination between stakeholders of government agencies, NGOs and police to ensure the effectiveness of the child helpline. He averred that the helpline was not only about counseling over the phone but aimed to reach out to the most marginalised children between the aged group of 0-18 years and provides intervention, shelter, medical repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorship and emotional support and guidance, he further added.
