$80m Grants to Improve Healthcare in Congo
The World Bank has approved an additional grant of $80m to improve healthcare in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project aims to improving access to essential health services in selected health zones, covering about 18.9 million people. The grant will mainly fund a major scale-up of malaria control activities and support the overall health system. In addition, the grant will be used to provide approximately 8.4 million long-lasting insecticidal bed nets in the Katanga, South Kivu and North Kivu provinces, and deliver malaria control services to pregnant women and infants in health zones supported by the project. Also, the grant would help to bridge the funding gap in the government’s effort to scale up malaria control and potentially reach universal bed net coverage by the end of 2011.
