Improvement in NHS maternity services
NHS maternity services have improved since 2009, but further progress is still needed, according to a survey conducted by the Care Quality Commission. The survey involved 25,000 women who gave birth in February 2010 and had received maternity services across 144 NHS trusts. The results showed that 92% of the women rated their care during pregnancy as good or better, and they were positive about the services they received. Most women, however, felt that they were alone during birth, while 8% said they did not receive pain relief they wanted. Other concerns included not getting enough information about their recovery, and a lack of improvement in the length of time women have to wait for stitches following an episiotomy.
