New Healthcare Programme for Children in Armenia
Armenia has announced a programme that will pump more than $8.6m into the healthcare sector to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare for children. The Child Health Certificate State Programme was initiated by the Ministry of Health of Armenia. It is supported by World Vision, as well as the UNICEF and USAID funded grant programmes. The healthcare programme also aims to reduce child deaths in hospitals and curb out-of-pocket payments to medical workers. The programme will implement steps such as the reimbursing the cost of hospital services provided to children under seven and doubling the salaries of medical workers. The Child Health State Certificate will be provided to every child under seven along with the Child Health Passport. It will include detailed and guidance about breastfeeding, child nutrition, immunisation calendar and child safety issues. Minister of Health of Armenia Haroutyun Kushkyan said that over the past few years, significant healthcare reforms were undertaken in the country, and some tangible achievements were gained in terms of maternal and child health.
