AMTZ signs MoU with QCI for quality certification
The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), Indias first ultra modern medical equipment manufacturing zone in Visakhapatnam, has signed a Memorandom of Understanding (MoU) with the Quality Council of India (QCI) for the promotion of Indian Certification for Medical Devices (ICMED) Scheme in India in order to significantly eliminate trading of sub-standard products or devices where supply chains are unknown.
The MoU was signed by Dr Jitendar Sharma, CEO, AMTZ and Dr RP Singh, Secretary General, QCI in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Health and Medical Education Minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas and Principal Secretary Health Medical and Family Welfare Dr Poonam Malakondaiah.
Among other distinguished guests at the MoU signing ceremony were Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator, Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD), Anil Jauhri, CEO, National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) and Mrutunjay Jena, Joint Director, NABCB.
Developed in collaboration with AiMeD, QCI and NABCB “ ICMED is a quality certification scheme for medical devices in the country with an aim to enhance patient safety, and increase consumer protection along with providing much needed product credentials to manufacturers to instill confidence among buyers.
Currently, with no established mandatory quality certifications for medical device manufacturing sector in India, the medical devices makers in the country lack an element of competitiveness with respect to the imported medical devices.
