Lupin gets USFDA nod for cholesterol drug
Drug firm Lupin has received FDA approval to market Nikita aka Pitavastatin tablets ”used for lowering bad cholesterol levels, available in 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg strengths.
Lupins Nikita (Pitavastatin) Tablets 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg are Pitavastatin Sodium, an alternate salt product of Kowa Company Ltds Livalo (Pitavastatin Calcium) tablets, Lupin said.
Human organ, specifically liver, makes all the cholesterol we need, whereas rest is obtained from foods high in saturated and trans fat. Cholesterol circulates in the blood, and as levels of blood cholesterol rise, so does the risk to health, leading to coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke, to name a few.
Lupin’s Nikita tablet is a new option for patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia as an adjunctive therapy to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides and to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
