Ayushman Bharat: Government gives in to IMA demand
Days after Indian Medical Association (IMA), the only representative voluntary organisation of the countrys private doctors, raised certain issues in Ayushman Bharat scheme, the Government has given in to their demand.
Center on Friday agreed to a higher package for hospitals treating poor beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat, or Modicare, under certain conditions.
Performance-linked payment system has been designed to incentivise providers to continuously improve quality and patient safety, said Ayushman Bharat Deputy CEO Dinesh Arora, according to a National Health Agency (NHA) press release.
Ayushman Bharat or Modicare which is one of the most ambitious healthcare scheme aims to provide coverage to 40 per cent of the countrys population. For the success of its flagship health coverage scheme, the Government is heavily dependent on the private sector as it covers 70 per cent of the countrys hospitals.
The flagship scheme assures health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family every year to 50 crore poor and vulnerable people.
According to latest decision, the implementing body of Ayushman Bharat ” the National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) ” the empanelled hospitals may get up to 45 per cent more than the prescribed rates for treating various diseases under certain conditions.
However, the step couldnt make IMA happy as it has been demanding much higher package rates.
The differences on the package rates continue, NHA in its release said.
