Sushma Swaraj passes away: leaders pay tribute, last rites to be performed at 3pm today
India’s first External Affairs Minister & a charismatic leader, Sushma Swaraj passed away late on Tuesday night, following a cardiac arrest. She was admitted to AIIMS earlier yesterday and was in a critical condition.
Sushma Swaraj’s mortal remains will be kept at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters for three hours today, to let people pay tribute to the astute politician. Her mortal remains will be kept at BJP headquarters from 12 pm to 3 pm. Her last rites will be performed at Lodhi crematorium, said BJP working president JP Nadda.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several other dignitaries like L K Adv, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, M Venkaiah Naidu and many more visited her residence to pay their last respects.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Sushma Swaraj congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet, for the government’s move on Jammu & Kashmir. She said she was waiting for this day in her entire lifetime.

Swaraj has been in and out of the hospital for the last few months, was also admitted to AIIMS on 7 November. Citing health reasons, the former minister did not contest the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
The 67-year-old leader, who had served her fourth term in Lok Sabha had long been her party’s most prominent woman face. She was the youngest cabinet minister at 25 when she joined the Haryana government in 1977 and the first woman chief minister of Delhi.
