Tamil Nadu: 13,000 govt doctors go for indefinite strike from Friday
Thousands of patients across Tamil Nadu will have a tough time from Friday as 13,000 government doctors of the Federation of Government Doctors Association will go for an indefinite strike. They will be boycotting all work pertaining to outpatient and inpatient treatment barring emergency services.
As per an Economic Times report, Government doctors are upset with the Government for not giving in to their demands–increase in salaries, quota in medical education and appointment of more doctors.
The federation of five associations announced that they left with little option but to strike after all formal and informal talks with the state health department couldn’t reach to any conclusion.
Meanwhile, the director of public health, medical education and medical services have warned staff stating that leaves will be considered ‘unauthorised absence’ and ‘break in service’.
“There is a fever outbreak and we are seeing increasing dengue case. If MBBS doctors go on leave, it will take at least another two years for them to be eligible for PG studies,” said Dr. K Kolandaswamy.
Meanwhile, the federation said that government doctors will remain on duty in emergency wards and ICUs.
