Provide us special permit to facilitate services: Healthcare providers to authorities
Amidst reports that some of their staff members have been maltreated while facilitating essential medical services , some home healthcare service providers and biotech companies have sought special permission to solve logistics issues.
After the Government imposed 21-day nationwide lockdown starting from Wednesday many of the public services were affected. The Centre had assured people that essential services like medical services would continue to work as usual. State Governments were directed to follow the guideline.

Portea Medical, a home healthcare services provider, said its staff “were beaten up by cops in Hyderabad and Lucknow while delivering ventilation and other essential equipment to homes amid lockdown”.

K Ganesh, founder, Portea, said some states have proactively given out contact numbers through which companies can obtain special permission and in some states staff members faced challenges due to lack of communication between police and authorities implementing the lockdown.
Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said a system was required to get certificates stamped by police and organisations, which will solve these issues.

The Bengaluru-headquartered biotech company has many employees engaged in critical medicine development coming to work and all of them have been given such certificates to reduce confusion.

“There has to be a system in place to make this happen. You cannot blame the police since they are following orders,” said Mazumdar-Shaw.
Ganesh of Portea said resorting to harsh actions against people who are essential services providers can be demotivating and local authorities should use communication tools to streamline things.
He added that healthcare should be treated as an essential service. “With home quarantine numbers going up due the Covid-19 outbreak, home healthcare is essential. And we do nearly 4,000 visits every day across the country,” said Ganesh.
