COVID-19: MHA issues guidelines, exempts agriculture, industries from April 20
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3, the Ministry of Home Affairs MHA) has issued a set of guidelines, bringing some relief to the industry and agriculture sector.
Manufacturing units and industries functioning from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have been given relief to operate during the lockdown.
The Commerce Ministry has issued detailed standard operating procedures (SOP) for industrial workers, as per a Business Today report.
The small factories and industrial units under the SOP are allowed to operate in single shifts with single entry point for workers ensuring strict social distancing and avoid crowding. The ministry has also directed the employers to arrange separate stay or transport arrangements for workers while they go back home from the factories.
During the lockdown, all public services such inter-state, inter-district movement of people, bus, metro services, domestic, international air travel, train services, educational institutions, coaching centres will be closed till May 3. In addition, cinema halls, malls, bars, shopping complexes, swimming pools, gyms, sports complexes will also be shut during this period.
On Tuesday, PM announced that a lockdown extension is needed amidst rising cases of COVID-19 across the country.
