Govt lifts restriction ban on export of Paracetamol
The Central government has lifted the restriction ban imposed on the export of Paracetamol in the wake of COVID-19 crisis.
The directorate general of foreign trade, under ministry of commerce and industry, reviewed its March 3 order that restricted the export of the drug and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). At that time, the government had to restrict the export to ensure its availability in the local market.
Paracetamol is perceived to be effective in the treatment of COVID-19 infection.
The drug is mainly used to treat fever and provide mild to moderate pain relief. Paracetamol is also sold in combinations with other medicines. It is also used to cure severe pain, such as pain felt after surgery and cancer pain.
Paracetamol is available in India in many formulations including liquid suspension, tablets, drops, injection and rectal suppositories with varied concentrations.
