PM underlines importance of ‘Make in India’, Telemedicine in healthcare
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the importance of ‘Make in India’ initiative, information technology-related tools including telemedicine, and good infrastructure in the healthcare sector.
While speaking at the 25th Foundation Day celebration of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, he said the nation must engage in discussions to leverage them to create a healthier societies.
Modi also inaugurated a hackathon, “Innovation Challenge on Covid-19″ at RGUHS via a video conference on this occasion.
“The initial gains in this make me optimistic. Our domestic manufacturers have started production of PPEs (personal protective equipment) and have supplied about 1 crore PPEs to covid-19 warriors,” Modi was quoted saying by a MINT report.
The statement comes in the wake of India’s high dependency on foreign countries including China for pharmaceutical products and medical equipment.
PM also spoke about improving infrastructure in terms of medical colleges and number of seats within them. The government is working to establish a medical college in every district, PM said. The country has seen rapid progress in setting up 22 more AIIMS in the country. In last five years, the country has added over 30,000 seats in MBBS and 15,000 seats in post-graduation programmes, he said.
