Meghalaya to get infectious diseases hospital
In an endeavour to ramp up healthcare infrastructure to control COVID-19 like infectious diseases in near future, Meghalaya and two other Northeastern states will soon get a dedicated hospital for the same. Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek was intimated about the move by Union Minister for Development of Northern Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh during a meeting held recently.
“Meghalaya will be one of the states where an infectious diseases hospital will come up with the help of the Centre,” Hek said after the meeting.
Infectious diseases have gained major focus after COVID-19 hit India along with other countries across the globe, causing death of millions of people. World over administrations are undertaking measures to prevent this menace and bolstering infra to overpower any such challenges in future.
Meghalaya currently has 2,478 active cases, of which 1,736 alone is in East Khasi Hills. On Sunday, at least 139 persons tested positive which pushed the total tally to 7,683. A total of 63 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in the state.
