Haryana Health Minister tests Covid positive, weeks after taking trial dose of vaccine
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has tested positive for coronavirus, days after he took trial dose of coronavirus vaccine Covaxin. The 67-year old minister has been admitted in Ambala Cantt. Hospital.
He had participated in a trial of corona virus vaccine Covaxin on November 20. Taking to Twitter, Vij directed those who came in close contact with him to get themselves tested for coronavirus. “I have been tested Corona positive. I am admitted in Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt. All those who have come in close contact to me are advised to get themselves tested for corona,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile a statement has been released from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, stating that “Covaxin is a two-dose anti-coronavirus vaccine and Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who had volunteered for its phase-three trial, was given only the first dose.”

Bharat Biotech has also issued statement, defending the efficacy of the vaccine. “Covaxin clinical trials are based on a 2-dose schedule, given 28 days apart. The vaccine efficacy will be determined 14 days post the 2nd dose. Covaxin has been designed to be efficacious when subjects receive both doses,” Biotech was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Vij is a senior leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is a legislator from Ambala Cantt assembly constituency.
