Bharat Biotech: Maximum Price for Covaxin required to Recover Costs
Bharat Biotech CMD Dr Krishna Ella has reportedly said that the company would like to receive the maximum price for Covaxin vaccines for recovering all costs that includes Rs 350 crore incurred on clinical trials. This, he said, to realise monies for working on vaccines for various kinds of infectious diseases.
Dr Krishna Ella said that the company had not requested the government for any funds for the trials or for any advances to augment vaccine manufacturing capacity. Dr Ella’s statement comes a day after the union government permitted the sale of the Covid-19 vaccines in the domestic open market.
Bharat Biotech CMD also said that the state governments will need to figure out the mechanism for procuring the Covid vaccines from the manufacturers. This is in the light of the procedure of procurement for other vaccines that involves tenders as well as suppliers short listing.
