Rajasthan’s Bikaner Set to Start India’s First Door-to-Door Vaccination Drive

Rajasthan’s Bikaner is reportedly set to become India’s first town to begin a door-to-door vaccination programme in the ongoing battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The state will inoculate people above 45 years of age residing in Bikaner during the vaccine drive. The state government has launched a helpline to enable people to register for the Covid-19 vaccine with their name and address via the WhatsApp number. It has mobilized two ambulances as well as three mobile teams for door-to-door vaccination drive in the town. To avoid wastage of doses, vaccine van will visit homes if at least 10 people register for the receiving the jab against Covid-19. A vial of the Covid-19 vaccine can be used to administer one dose each for 10 people.

Namit Mehta, district magistrate of Bikaner has said that the state government’s goal is to give the vaccine to 75% of people above 45 years of age. The door-to-door vaccination programme can be proven very effective as experts are anticipating a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
