Ayushman Bharat PMJAY touches 3 crore hospital admissions landmark

Inching closer towards achieving the universal health coverage in India, the ambitious Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMAJAY) touched the landmark of 3 crore hospital admissions. Launched in 2018, “world’s largest government funded healthcare program” is targeting more than 50 crore beneficiaries.

It may be recalled that the National Health Authority (NHA), the implementing agency of AB-PMJAY, under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), had recently announced the integration with Aarogya Setu helping users to create their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA).

Under the ABDM, a user can generate their 14-digit unique ABHA number that can further be used to link their existing and new medical records, including doctor prescriptions, lab reports, hospital records, etc. and also share these records with registered health professionals and health service providers. The users can also access other digital health services whilst maintaining a common pool of medical history.

The scheme offers 13.44 crore families (equivalent to 65 crore individuals) an annual coverage of Rs 5 lakhs per year. Being an entitlement-based scheme, all eligible families are automatically covered under the PMJAY.
