Covid Vaccination for 12-14 year age group and booster dose for 60+ to commence from March 16
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has informed that the Covid-19 vaccination for 12-14-year-olds and ‘precaution dose’ for all those above 60 years will begin from March 16. The Covid vaccine to be dispensed would be Corbevax manufactured by Biological Evans, Hyderabad.
The population above 14 years is already being administered the Covid vaccine—Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin—under the ongoing Covid vaccination program. The government also decided to dismiss the condition of co-morbidity for Covid precaution dose for population over 60.
India commenced its Covid-19 vaccination a year ago. Covaxin and ZyCoV-1 were in consideration for the vaccination of children aged 15-18 in India. Covaxin, simulated by Bharat Biotech, is the same vaccine that is used for the inoculation of adults. ZyCoV-1, developed by Zydus Cadila, is a new vaccine and full vaccination incorporates three doses. However, on the Cowin app, only Covaxin is shown as an available shot for kids.
