India and Bangladesh to become ‘Pharmacy of the World’

Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal has stated that India and Bangladesh have the potential to become ‘Pharmacy of the World’. “During COVID-19, vaccines produced in India – Covaxin & Covishield produced a niche for themselves as secure vaccines. Time has now come for joint manufacturing of vaccines and other medicines!” Goyal said while addressing the inaugural session of ‘India-Bangladesh Stakeholder’s Meet’, a virtual programme organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

He also emphasized three other areas where India and Bangladesh should focus more to boost their bilateral relationships. Both countries should also explore potential areas of investments in textiles, jute products, leather and footwear, APIs for pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, agribusiness, among others, he added.

Enhancing connectivity is crucial to heighten relationships further and develop bilateral trade and investment potential between Bangladesh and eastern India.
