Amazon closes a $3.9 billion deal to acquire a primary-care clinic operator

Amazon.com Inc. closed a $3.9 billion deal to acquire a primary-care clinic operator, joining a number of businesses depending on doctors and healthcare providers to increase their market share.

The company said on Wednesday that it had finished buying 1Life Healthcare Inc., which runs a primary-care clinic under the moniker One Medical. The agreement allows Amazon to work with thousands of businesses to offer health benefits to employees through in-person and online care, as well as access to dozens of medical offices in more than 20 U.S. regions.

Amazon Chief Executive Andy Jassy said, “Together, we believe we can make the healthcare experience easier, faster, more personal, and more convenient for everyone.”
