Union Health Minister to meet e-pharmacy representatives
The representatives of e-pharmacies will soon attend a meeting with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
A report by the news agency PTI claims that the delegates would come from businesses that the government is keeping an eye on due to a number of issues, including data privacy and the irrational use of prescription drugs.
These e-pharmacies have serious concerns about the unregulated and unreasonable usage of prescription pharmaceuticals by these businesses as well as about protecting patients’ data privacy. According to the sources cited by PTI, these pharmacies gather information on drug consumption by geographic region, which raises concerns about patient safety.
The Union Health Ministry is already considering rules and severe punishments for online pharmacies.
The New Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill, 2023, amended draft, which has been forwarded for inter-ministerial consultation, states that “The central government may, regulate, restrict or prohibit the sale or distribution of any drug by online mode, by notification.” The draught legislation, which included a clause requiring licence to run an online pharmacy, was made available to the public for comment in July of last year.
