NHA launches 100 microsites project to boost digital health adoption across India
In an effort to enhance healthcare accessibility and promote digital health adoption in India, the National Health Authority (NHA) has unveiled the ambitious “100 Microsites Project” under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). These microsites will act as clusters comprising small and medium-scale healthcare facilities, including clinics, nursing homes, hospitals (with a preference for less than 10 beds), labs, and pharmacies. All these establishments will be ABDM-enabled, providing digital health services to patients.
The primary objective of these microsites is to create self-contained ecosystems in specific geographic regions where complete ABDM adoption is implemented, and the entire patient journey is digitized. The State Mission Directors of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will primarily oversee the establishment of these microsites across various states and union territories, with the National Health Authority providing financial resources and overall guidance.

Within each microsite, all healthcare professionals from different systems of medicine, particularly from the private sector, will be registered in ABDM modules such as the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Health Facility Registry (HFR). Subsequently, ABDM-enabled applications will be installed to facilitate seamless digital health services. Patients visiting these healthcare centers will also become a part of ABDM, with their health records linked to their ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Application). These records will be accessible to patients through mobile applications like ABHA App and Aarogya Setu.

The CEO of NHA expressed the vision to establish 100 such Microsites across the country, focusing on bringing numerous small and medium-scale healthcare providers into the ABDM fold. This approach not only aims to increase adoption among private sector providers but also expand ABDM’s reach within the private healthcare sector nationwide.
The project’s ultimate goal is to raise awareness among small-medium scale healthcare providers about ABDM and its benefits, encourage registration on ABDM’s core registries, and promote the use of ABDM-certified digital solutions. Through these efforts, the microsites will pave the way for the widespread adoption of ABDM in India, creating a thriving ecosystem that embraces digital health initiatives.
