Health IT-related concerns are among the top 10 issues facing the healthcare industry in 2012, according to a new report by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Health Research Institute, Government Health IT reports.
The report, which ranks major issues facing health care organizations, was based in part on a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults.
For 2012, PwC predicts that healthcare organisations will focus on 10 key issues, including:
 Investing in healthcare informatics and forming data-sharing partnerships with other organisations;
 Strengthening data privacy and security protections; and
 Experimenting with social media to connect with patients and improve health care quality.
The report also found that:
 60% of survey respondents said they would be comfortable with having their data shared among health care providers if it improved care coordination;
 32% said they have used social media for health care purposes; and
 30% said clear privacy and security policies are a top consideration when choosing a hospital
