Finalists of Imagine Cup competition 2006 of Microsoft

At Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, seven projects, the finalists in the software design segment of the company’s annual Imagine Cup competition of this year were displayed on June 28. None of the projects used the Linux operating system or ran on an Apple Mac. But they all sought to apply Windows and other Microsoft technologies for improving health care. The projects included prototype technologies to support doctor-patient interaction, to improve exercise habits and to help people with disabilities navigate streets. The competition is in its fourth year. More than 65,000 students participated in Imagine Cup this year. The prototype from students at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology in India emits specific tones from the PC speakers as the cursor moves, helping a sight-impaired person navigate the screen, reads program names when the cursor passes over icons. Other groups in the finals were from Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, South Korea and Japan.
