Hi-tech pens: Choice of Midwives to get vital information
On trail are the futuristic digital pens that can transmit patient notes straight to hospital files. The first pilot of the country consisted of six midwives as participants. It was seen as a revolutionary step in the way midwives could work. Midwives write their notes on special paper peppered with tiny dots which picks up what is being written and this is, then, automatically sent back to the NHS records system via a Blackberry and saved. The midwives have used the technology for a month when booking in mums-to-be for their NHS care. Health officials say the system helps free up time which would otherwise be spent inputting notes. They say it will also minimize the risk of notes being lost in transit.
