OR Technology upgraded by NJ health system

The largest integrated delivery network in southern New Jersey, Virtua, is rolling out new information technology for operating rooms in nine facilities. Virtua utives will implement Wakefield, Mass.-based Picis’ CareSuite perioperative and anesthesia software at four acute care hospitals and five ambulatory surgery clinics. They say the technology will deliver clinical and financial information more quickly and accurately, thereby promoting quality patient care. Virtua uses Picis’ perioperative automation solution and plans to streamline clinician workflow throughout the surgical process, unify documentation on one perioperative platform and capture data from medical and monitoring devices directly in the patient record.

Designed to update data automatically in the patient’s electronic health record, the Picis solution makes it readily available for use in treatment and management reporting. It was reported by Virtua’s 14-member selection team that Picis was selected on the basis of the company’s demonstrated ability to drive process improvements in patient throughput and quality initiatives, provide proven device connectivity of the electronic patient record and promote interoperability with hospital information systems such as Siemens Medical Solutions. Virtua plans to implement OR Manager, Anesthesia Manager, PACU Manager, SmarTrack, Extelligence OR, Extelligence Anesthesia and Picis Perioperative Dashboard.
