IGMH, Maldives to be managed by Apollo Hospitals
Vice President of the Republic Dr. Mohamed Waheed has indicated IGMH would soon be jointly managed by the Maldivian government and Apollo Hospitals of India, one of the largest healthcare organizations in the region. He made the statement at a press conference held at the President’s office, following a ceremony commemorating the new administration’s 100th day in power. Dr. Waheed said the government believed it paramount that world class healthcare services were made available within the country. He said the government’s current objective was to provide health insurance to 100,000 persons. He also asserted the government’s policy was to provide equal access to healthcare for all persons, regardless of their connections or standing. President Nasheed had also mentioned the government had received proposals from various foreign parties interested in managing the local healthcare facilities. Investment in local healthcare was opened up in order to raise the standard of service and eliminate the need for Maldivians to go abroad seeking healthcare. Nasheed had also said parties will be allowed to manage additional hospitals in Male and other regions of the country in the near future.
