ONGC launches telemedicine project in India

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) of India has launched the telemedicine network project, named “Sagar Space Chikitsa” from SQL platform at Lilavati Hospital of Mumbai, India. Sagar Space Chikitsa is meant to link and equip the remote offshore locations and super specialty hospitals through server-browser based telemedicine system. The solution allows medical data to be streamed real time from remote areas of Mumbai to specialists . The same data is also stored in a centralised server for later review and reporting. The system will provide medical information and consultation in all fields of medicine, including cardiology, orthopedics and surgical. A standard IBM compatible PC is installed with the necessary operating system along with a browser. The medical devices and the video conferencing system are connected into one simple system through the PC to the server software. The VSAT connectivity will connect the remote systems with the centralised server. The personnel at the offshore installations of ONGC will receive accurate and timely diagnosis with Sagar Space Chikitsa. The telemedicine system will also reduce critical healthcare delivery times by scheduling proper treatment and follow-up.
