Covid-19 death: Delhi govt forms four panels to inspect 11 hospitals
In an endeavour to take stock of the situation in covid hospitals in the national capital, Delhi government has constituted four committees of experts.
The committee comprising specialists, two from internal medicine and two anaesthetists, would inspect 11 private and government Covid-designated healthcare facilities and give report on what steps needed to further improve delivery of services and to reduce death rates.
The healthcare facilities that would be inspected include Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, GTB, Max Saket, St Stephens’ Hospital, RML , Sir Ganga Ram, Safdarjung and Lok Nayak. The panel would also check whether the hospitals were following the standard operating procedures and protocols and figure out the problems and reasons for the deaths. The committees would have to submit their reports to the principal secretary (health) by August 3, a TOI report said.

“The deaths due to Covid in Delhi have come down. But it has to be reduced further. Today, we formed four committees of doctors which will inspect these hospitals and give suggestions: 1) Where there are still more deaths, 2) Where there are more deaths in wards, which means the patient was not taken to ICU on time,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
As per the data, a total of 3,907 people have died in different hospitals designated to treat covid patients in the city. Though the death rate has decreased in recent days, steps needed to reduce it further.
While three of the committees have been assigned three hospitals each, the fourth would be inspecting two hospitals. “The committees will be examining whether SOPs for treating Covid-19 patients are being followed in the hospitals. They will also analyse the reason for the higher percentage of deaths,” an official was quoted saying by the report.
