States advised to step up testing for early identification of omicron cases
Centre has advised states to intensify testing for the early detection of Omicron cases. A review meeting with states and UTs was conducted by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan today amidst the rising global spread of the Omicron, the new covid variant. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of extremely high global risk from the omicron variant based on the early evidence. It has stated that the mutated coronavirus could lead to surges with “severe consequences.”
India has so far not reported any case of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Parliament and the centre is taking all the measures to curb its spread. The Union Health Ministry has issued revised travel guidelines amidst rising concerns around the rapid spread of the Omicron Covid variant. Starting December 1, 2021, international passengers must submit 14 days’ travel history and upload negative Covid test results, conducted within 72 hours of the journey. Travelers from the high risk countries will be subjected to testing and extra surveillance. Several states have also imposed their own restrictions to stop the virus spread.
