World AIDS Day 2021 observed around the globe

HIV is a major health issue and a cause for concern across the globe. World Health Organization (WHO) statistics indicate that in 2020, 37,700,000 estimated numbers of people were living with HIV, 680,000 people died from HIV-related causes and 1,500,000 people were newly infected.

December 1 is recognized as World Aids Day wherein government officials and individuals around the world educate people on AIDS prevention and control. The Theme of Worlds Aids Day 2021 is “End inequalities. End AIDS”. A number of events and activities are organized across the globe to reach out to the maximum number of people and make them aware about this disease. The first World AIDS Day was observed in 1988.

With the pandemic raging since the past two years, the global health crisis of HIV has been aggravated even further. The HIV virus attacks the immune system, affecting the resistance to other diseases and putting the patients in a vulnerable situation.
