VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and a Consortium of leading research institutions across Europe are taking the treatment of traumatic brain injuries in a more individualised direction.
Researchers in the US aim to develop an implantable biochip that could diagnose and provide medication to soldiers as soon as they are injured. Survival of battlefield wounds often depends on the level of treatment within the first 30 minutes, so providing instant treatment to wounded soldiers before a medic can reach them could increase chances of survival.
People who have suffered traumatic brain injuries and who are unable to speak or move are being given the first chance to communicate using just the power of thought and a laptop loaded with sophisticated algorithms.
