The Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) has empowered the BPL population with the ability to avail quality healthcare services free of cost. Within a span of two and a half years, the scheme has provided healthcare cover to almost 70 million people living under the poverty line.
The health ministry has planned to standardise common set of protocols for treatment across the country. For this the ministry has set up an expert panel to draft a set of norms for unified treatment standards expected to be implemented in next three to four months and in hospitals and healthcare service centres in one-two years.
The insurance supported mediclaim policy that entitles the user to avail cashless facilities, will no longer be available at high-end hospitals like Apollo, Fortis, Ganga Ram, Max or Medicity in Delhi, the national capital region (NCR) and the metros of Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.
